Sharp Carousel R820 JS-F Convention Microwave Oven
Gordon
I have the original Sharp Microwave that accompanied my 2008 View H (mfg date: December 2006). The microwave works fine; however, the display for the time/temperature seldom will light up. There appears to be a very weak light when a flashlight is directed right on the display. I have talked to repair individuals and they related that the PCB Control DPWBFC428WRUZ is no longer manufactured by Sharp. Has anyone either encountered a similar problem and what was found for a solution and/or found a suitable replacement that will fit into the cupboard cut-out in the cabinet? It would seem that a replacement would be a best solution as the rest of the components will still be 17 years old even if a new control could be found. All solutions and replies will be greatly appreciated...Thank You!

You might google Sharp Microwave circuit board repair and c what u come up with. Might add or drop Sharp for different attempts. We had our board replaced about 10 years ago by a company in central Ohio Jim 07VH FLOH On Tue, Feb 21, 2023 at 3:06 PM Gordon <hubbardgordon@...> wrote: I have the original Sharp Microwave that accompanied my 2008 View H (mfg date: December 2006). We also have an '08H. Haven't had any issues yet, but there are a few choices here: https://www.recpro.com/rv-microwave/ John. Marty- I am going to pursue trying to find a replacement.....it was manufactured in Dec. 2006 and who knows what might be next to go haywire. I did receive a lead from a fellow who said to check out the following link: FixYourBoard.com I put that email address in and it appears to be a bon a fide place that will repair the circuitry on mother boards. I can only imagine what labor costs might be for that service! One other lead...... www/recpro.com/rv-microwave/ I emailed those people and they appear to have microwave that fit into RVs.....getting the correct size will be the problem. This company is located in Bristol, IN. I will try and let you know if or when I get this resolved- Gordy

a fellowHere! Here! That should have read "a very good fellow". I'm not sure of size variances but if you want an under $100 solution without the convection, let me know and I'll look up the model I installed (already forgot but I do use it daily) -- Don - 2006 Navion - J |

It was a couple of years back, but we found the board at Sears Parts and replaced it ourselves.

Gordy, Hope this reply is not late to need but even if it is perhaps it may be of use to some others reading here. Let me be clear up front that I am sharing what I believe to be insights based on my experience rather than definitive, concrete solutions. Big shout out to Don Phillipe for his sage advice in this regard. So, we have a 06H with the original Sharp Carousel R820 JS-F Convection Microwave unit. It runs fine and we love it especially for the convection capability. We had a propane oven in our previous RV but rarely used it because we had to light a pilot for it to work, so the Sharp in the View is a blessing, though it does require shore power or generator to run. Firstly, many owners don't know that the microwave/convection oven is just a table-top model that is plugged into a 110v outlet in the back of the cabinet where it is installed. Therefore, replacing one is not a rocket science project. Secondly, if you will pull the oven to get the control panel out, you have already done much of the labor to replace it, if necessary. With your symptoms, I would suggest several possible "easy" fixes before you jump off the edge with a new control panel or even worse, a whole new oven. The very first thing I would personally do is clean all connectors on the controller board and, to the extent possible, in the connectors on the wires. Merely reinserting them may be all it takes. You might also check the connectors on the board to make sure they have not jiggled a solder connection loose. It probably seems like a long shot but we had a very vexing electrical problem (albeit with our Norcold fridge) and it turned out to be a loose solder connection which only took 15 minutes with my pencil soldering iron to fix. Also, if you have a faint, almost invisible image on the display when it is on it may be that the LCD backlight may be the culprit. I've replaced them in a number of laptops exhibiting this exact symptom in the past. Here's a link to an article which explains the differences in various types of backlight tubes: Without a schematic and/or photo in front of me, I don't know if the display in the Sharp is attached to the frame of the oven or to the controller board but it may be a simple as removing two screws and pulling one mini-plug to replace it. OR, it might mean replacing one or more LEDs on the board which could be a little more complicated but not impossible. See the following blog for more insights: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/dim-lcd-display-sharp-microwave/ If it's a simple fix the cost should be minimal apart from your time to remove the oven, controller, diagnose the problem, and rectify it. For example, if the backlight is separate and can be simply removed/replaced the cost could be as low as just over $20. On the other hand, with today's labor rates, it might be quite a bit more expensive given today's labor rates. At some point, if the cost approaches/exceeds $100 it may just be more cost-effective to replace the unit. There are some places which advertise RV-specific microwaves, but I seriously doubt they are anything different from the ones available over the counter for home use. The RV-specific ones are generally much more expensive than the ones from the big box stores or internet suppliers. This is exactly what happened with 12TVs because many people believed (erroneously IMO) that one had to buy one from an RV supplier.... We have had a 12v TV in each of our two RVs and neither was purchased from an RV dealer or camping store. They were simply desktop LED TVs powered by a 12v wall-wart transformer plugged into 110v so natively on 12v. When I reviewed the dimensions of the Sharp R280, I found there are quite a few new models from various manufacturers that fit that size and have the same capabilities (MW, grill, convection, browning, etc) for under $200... one even at only about $100. They will all fit fine in the View's MW opening with plenty of clearance for ventilation. The trim may need to be adjusted but that's no real issue, IMO So, I hope this has been useful. Please let us know how you fared, eh? |
